We are the Portuguese Reproducibility Network (PTRN),
a peer-led consortium of academics that aims to foster the adoption of responsible and reproducible research practices across the different disciplines in Portugal.
Concerned about the quality, reproducibility, rigor and transparency of research?
Interested in learning how to use “research on research” to improve research in your field?
Apply for the Meta-science Summer School (deadline May 22) to get hands-on experience, while collaborating with researchers from different fields and countries. Meta-research studies the research process and tests interventions to improve research quality, culture and practice. During this week-long school (August 23-28, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany), participants will work in small groups with experienced meta-researchers to design and start meta-research, or science of science, studies. Participants may continue working after the summer school to finish and publish their project.
The school is open to researchers from any field and welcomes researchers who do not have meta-research experience. There is no cost to attend. Travel funding is available for a limited number of students. Instructors include Tracey Weissgerber, Vladislav Nachev, Malcolm Macleod, Anita Bandrowski, Rachel Heyard and Marlene Altenmüller.

The school is funded by Volkswagen Stiftung and organized by the BIH QUEST Center for Responsible Research and the EXCELScIOR ERA Chair meta-research team at the University of Coimbra. Supporting organizations include the German Reproducibility Network, meta-rep, iRise and the Portuguese Reproducibility Network.

Founded on the 15th of June, 2021, PTRN aims to promote the adoption of replicable, transparent, robust, and rigorous research practices across all scientific disciplines in Portugal.
Our ultimate goal is to promote responsible and sustainable research that can have an impact on relevant societal problems. Accordingly, the network facilitates:
1. The organization of discussion forums and training activities,
2. The curation of materials and resources,
3. The systematization of recommendations regarding best scientific practices, and
4. The investigation and dissemination of best research-practices.
We also work with stakeholders (e.g., funders, publishers, scientific societies) and other reproducibility networks (e.g., UKRN, SWISSRN, DERN) to ensure the coordination of efforts nationally and internationally.
The PTRN is committed to improving research practices in Portugal. It also works with other international reproducibility networks whose goals align with the aims of the PTRN to coordinate efforts in examining and disseminating best research practices across all scientific disciplines.
The activities of the PTRN span multiple levels: researchers, research groups, faculties, institutes, funders, and the public authorities. We seek to have a transdisciplinary and multi-institutional representation across Portugal.
We aim to support researchers at all career levels in learning about Responsible and Reproducible Research Practices, and in creating local nodes at their institutions.
We aim to support local initiatives and connect them with other national and international initiatives.
We help researchers to organize themselves in nodes.
We connect with different stakeholders (e.g., universities, publishers, funders, scientific societies) to coordinate efforts on the promotion of best research practices.
